A Black Theatre Workshop & Roseneath Theatre co-production

Taking Care of Maman – By Djennie Laguerre

At the core of Taking Care of Maman is a message of hope.

Synopsis

Eli’s maman is having her ”sadness” again and she knows the only one who can help is their neighbour Madame Jean. This funny and touching piece explores how two completely different generations develop a supportive and lasting relationship during the hardest time of the pandemic.

A Word from Dian

“We are delighted to co-produce this compelling play with Roseneath Theatre, a project first developed under their dramaturgy in 2022. Djennie’s gift for storytelling shines as she vividly portrays the fears and struggles of a young child in a way that respects their complexity. The play delves into how identity and social circumstances shape reality, particularly during the isolating experience of COVID-19, where social media pressures meet the harshness of a parent’s mental illness.”
